Daniel Éric Clive Laurent serves as the Lord Mayor of Port Louis, where he demonstrates his perseverance as the city’s administrator. Coming from a background of poverty, Laurent is passionate about job creation and sustainability.
Laurent has collected a number of odd jobs under his belt, ranging from an informal trader to a factory worker. He did not let school failure stop him, and through his determination, he has managed to achieve his dreams.
In 2012, he got involved in politics after joining the Mouvement Militant Mauricien (MMM). He was elected as a Ward Councillor soon after under the banner of the Mouvement Socialiste Militant. From there, he steadily rose through the political ranks to eventually hold the title of Lord Mayor of Port Louis after his successful election in 2016.
