Tony Hadley is an expert in Cement strategy, management, operations, performance optimisation and business turnarounds. He has been involved in the cement business for >20 years, initially as Regional President of Blue Circle Cement and then Lafarge for Africa, running a portfolio of businesses in Egypt, Cameroon, Nigeria, Benin, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Malawi and the Indian Ocean. He left Lafarge and served as CEO of Dangote Cement, now Africa’s largest and most profitable cement Company. These roles involved setting the strategy for success for building the African cement portfolio, overseeing strategy, organisational development, driving an industrial and commercial performance, and QHSE culture.
He oversaw significant M&A activity and managing CSR, partners, unions and governmental relations. This also included greenfield and brownfield cement plants construction and ramp up, including ancillary projects to ensure operational success (power, fuel, road, training and other projects).
We also developed a very focused integration model for newly acquired cement Companies and operated a very robust business cycle. This developed an exceptionally well positioned, very profitable, portfolio of African cement Companies run by an excellent team.
Tony has sat / sits on the Board of numerous Companies, as Chairman, Vice Chairman, Independent NED, Shareholder representative etc. This both for listed and privately held Companies.
He was a member of the Nigerian, Malian, Tanzanian and Ugandan Presidential Advisory Boards. Tony was invited onto Tony Blairs commission for Africa and was a member of the “Private Investors for Africa’ organisation, lobbying Brussels and Washington to better understand multinational development in Africa. Tony also sits on Private Equity Advisory Boards and act’s as advisor to the Board for a number of cement Companies.
For the last 11 years Tony has managed a high-level Consulting Company advising mainly on Cement, mainly in Africa, increasingly the Company runs projects in Europe, Asia and South America.
The Company provides advise on cement, M&A, strategy, organisation and performance, with a specific focus on running successful business in Africa. The Company also provides due diligence, investment analysis, runs C-suite head hunting, provides strategic reviews, Board strategy sessions, and strategic reviews and develops turn around programs for distressed assets. We now have developed significant expertise in calcined clay and other CO2 reduction initiatives.
Tony maintains a wide industry network and has a team of top-class professionals to cover all relevant disciplines. In recent years the Company has advised cement majors, regionals, and locals, Private Equity, Family offices, Banks, Professional service organisations and Sovereign funds, including in China. The last year or two has been spent successfully working on turnarounds of financially distressed cement Companies. The Company can assist Companies seeking investment opportunities in Africa into existing cement businesses, greenfield projects or into making broader assessments of the cement industry.
He also has a niche investment Company focused on value and activist investments in niche, mainly frontier markets.
