Abongile Balarane

Abongile joined the corporate world in 2010, as an Agricultural Economist at the North West Department of Agriculture, after that he moved to the Land bank in 2013. After spending close to a year with the Land Bank, he joined the National Agricultural Marketing Council (NAMC) as the specialist under the Southern Africa Supply and Demand Crop Estimates Committee. Abongile was one of the first Africans to be appointed in the Supply and Demand Estimates Committee where he was responsible for forecasting and modelling the availability of major grains and oilseeds in the Republic of South Africa. Abongile was also responsible for different industry forums where strategic, issues that affect the development of the Grains industry were discussed and endorsed. He represented Government and the Grains industry on numerous local and international platforms similar to the International Grains Council. Abongile was also a researcher under the Agriculture and Agro-processing Master Plan (AAMP) and has published & presented several academic research journals including a book chapter with Wessex University.

Abongile is now the CEO/General Manager responsible for the egg organisation under the South African Poultry Association umbrella. He is responsible for several programs but not limited to statutory levies, growth of the egg industry, transformation issues as prescribed by the NAMC transformation guidelines, lobbying, and ensuring stable relationships between the Government and the Industry.
