Chris Burgess

Chris Burgess has been the editor-in-chief of Landbouweekblad and since 2011. Under his editorship, the Landbouweekblad brand has been successfully diversified to include platforms such as television, conferences and events. Cutting-edge topics like regenerative agriculture have also become a major editorial focus for the brand. Chris hails from the Eastern Cape where he grew up on the family farm, and where his family still farms. He completed his honours degree in journalism at Stellenbosch University, and was appointed as editor of Farmer’s Weekly in 2000. In 2010 he was a finalist in the category of Editor of the Year in the national Pica competition. In 2018 he was awarded the title of Journalist of the Year at Media24’s excellence awards for magazines, as well as Columnist of the Year for his weekly editor’s letter in Landbouweekblad. At a gala event in Midrand in Gauteng he was awarded Grain SA’s 2018 Inspiration Award for his pivotal role in the ground-breaking Bela-Bela’s land summit. In 2019 Chris received the Piet Cillié award for excellence in journalism from Media24. He also freelances for several national publications.
