Group Executives for Smart Society at the CSIR
Dr Sandile Malingaholds a PhD in physics from Rhodes University and a Master of Business Administration from Business School Netherlands. He is an internationally recognised and widely published expert in the areas of physics, space science and technology.
Sandile is the former Chief Operations Officer (COO) of the Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS), a company that is responsible for air traffic management in South Africa and with operations on the African continent. He was the founding Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the South African National Space Agency (SANSA). During his tenure, between 2011 and 2016, he was instrumental in developing and leading the implementation of the organisational strategy, establishing partnerships with key industry stakeholders, leading the acquisition and fulfilment of commercial contracts, and overseeing large research and development projects.
Dr Malinga is currently, the group executive for Smart Society, leading the NextGen Enterprises and Institutions, Smart Mobility and Smart Places clusters at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
