Professor Prathaban Moodley is a General Manager at the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) and heads up the Applied Energy Research Development and Innovation Division. The division conducts energy research in all areas of energy including electricity, gas and liquid fuels. The research covers primary energy, conversion technologies, transmission and distribution, digitalization as well as the end use of energy. Prof Moodley has over 20 years of power utility experience in which he has held various senior management roles. Prof Moodley is an internationally recognized expert in the power utilities industry. He is a member of various national and international industry bodies as well as in the academic field. He is active at, inter-alia, the International Energy Agency (IEA – ISGAN), Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), as well as a member of several university Advisory Boards. Prof Moodley is a seasonal lecturer at the Wits Business School lecturing Technical Fundamentals of Electricity Power Systems. He is a registered professional engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and holds the following degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand: Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical); Master of Engineering (Electrical) and PhD in Electrical Engineering.
