Zaidy specialises in the field of marine ecology and is a diving instructor. At government level, she is professionally qualified as a National Marine Operations and Safety Officer with the Coast Guard and is a National Blue Economy Sectors and Industries Liaison Officer. Zaidy holds a master’s degree in MSc Environmental Management & Development and is a Fellow at the United Nations in the Ocean Affairs and Law of the Sea Division, where she advocates for Small Island Developing States. Zaidy is currently working with island governments and industry partnerships to create sustainable maritime careers in blue economy development sectors: in this case, jobs in coastal tourism and fisheries, as well as coast guard and maritime security, with a focus on blue workforce building with islands diving industry. Zaidy brings development perspective to the blue economy in the sustainability summit 2022 that stems from her current doctoral research on integrating basic and functional policies on decent jobs (SDG 8), capacity building and safe workplaces of the International Labour Organisation (ILO)with SDG 14 – Oceans and Seas and the Blue Economy.As Island Innovation Ambassador, she brings an island perspective to the 2022 Sustainability Summit. She will speak about innovation strategies and policies that can support blue skills, career pathways, changing professions and the need for industry certifications in the context of oceans and climate change.
